In 1987, filling the obvious need for an environmentally sensitive river and rainforest tour, the Lafferty family developed the Daintree River Cruise Centre.  Situated on private land, the Cruise Centre overlooks a wide and picturesque section of the river known as the tidal convergence zone, where warm seawater and cool freshwater meet and where the mangroves merge with the rainforest.

All amenities are provided and complimentary refreshments are served in a pleasant reception area that has many interesting displays on local flora and fauna.  For those who wish to enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the river, there are picnic areas available.  The gardens are frequented by an array of beautiful and fascinating rainforest creatures. Visitors can see many species of birds, frogs, reptiles and butterflies.
Our river boat tours are expertly guided by experienced naturalists in a quite, comfortable vessel specifically designed for river conditions.  Equipped with the most technologically advanced motors, the vessels provide near silent propulsion with an absolute minimum of vibration, exhaust omission and wake.  Short of rowing or sailing there is no more fuel efficient way of cruising.  This is one of the reasons that we have been awarded ‘Eco Certified Advanced Ecotourism.’

The Daintree River Cruise Centre strives to provide the best service possible whilst having as little impact on the environment as possible.  It is the aim of this company to be able to provide our guest with an interesting and eye-opening rainforest and river experience that will leave them with a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Magnificent Daintree Rainforest.

Mick solely operates Matilda IV catering for birdwatchers, photographers, and nature lovers.  Your guests can join him to watch the animals wake up with the day, on the 1-3 hour early morning tours, or maybe they would like to watch the egrets fly to their roosts upstream on sunset
(also a 1-3 hour tour).

Or maybe try something different, 1hour full moon trips.  All tours are to be booked in advanced by calling the cruise centre during office hours or Mick at home on
